Notice of PagePlop Web Hosting and A-List Hosting Provider Change

15 September 2005

Attn: All Customers

Our current telecommunications provider, Level 3 Communications, will no longer offer the type of telecommunication links that we use for our primary internet connectivity. Therefore, we will be switching our internet connectivity to a new provider, BellSouth.

For most of our clients, no action will be required - you will not even notice that any change has taken place. However, for a small number of our clients, you will need to make a minor modification on your systems in order for some of your services to continue uninturrupted.

This letter is intended to make you aware of the upcoming events with regard to your web hosting, email and list hosting service. Specific information for your account(s) will be emailed as scheduled below. Again, for most clients, no modifications on your part will be necessary.

This transition will be completely seamless provided those clients who do need to make small modificaions do so when and as requested.

The following is our current plan of action.

During the last two weeks of September, each client will be emailed and asked to verify their account contact information. If we do not receive a response, a representative of PagePlop and A-List Hosting will contact you via phone to update your information.

During the first week of October, we will inventory all accounts on our system and email each account contact detailed instructions and the proposed transition date (currently planned for the third week in October). After receiving your instructions, you may contact us with any questions you have.

Finally, we will send detailed reminder notices one week prior to, three days prior to and the day of the transition.

Please keep an eye out for the email notices that we will send. If you have any questions, at any time, feel free to email us at support@pageplop.com, support@a-listhosting.com or phone us at PagePlop 919-233-6602 or A-List Hosting 919-859-0868.

Please share this notice with the administrative and technical contacts for your account (e.g., webmasters).

For those currently interested, the modifications which may be required are as follows:

1. Anyone using an IP number in their email client to reference one of our servers will need to modify that IP number to reflect the new class-C block that will be assigned by BellSouth. Not doing so will result in the inability to send and receive email, though any emails sent to our system will be kept until the client IP modification is made. In other words, no email will be lost, but you may be inhibited from receiving mail temporarily.

2. For all clients where we do not manage DNS services, primarily those for whom we host listserves but not their website or email, your DNS administrator must change the IP numbers in the DNS records to reflect the change of IP block to BellSouth. Not doing so will result in the temporary non-functioning of your listserve, however your list will be fully functional once that change is made.

3. For a small handful of clients for whom we host their website, but do not manage their DNS zone file, you will have to modify that zone file to reflect the new IP number of our web servers. Not doing so will make your web site go down until the change is made in that zone file.

4. Colocation clients (and if you don't know what that is, you are not one) will need to undero major coordinated efforts to make the changeover. We will be working closely with those clients directly to ensure that the transition is seamless.

The most important thing to remember here is not to panic. We have had to perform this type of switch in the past when we switched from Sprint to Level 3 in 2001 and 98 percent of our clients not only had to do nothing, but they didn't even know that any change had taken place. We also have extensive experience in making these types of switches when taking on clients whose previous providers have gone belly-up or have been involved in some sort of catastrophe that resulted in the loss of internet connectivity. We thrive on the type of circumstances that would make most folks crumple up in a corner while drooling and rocking back and forth; for us, this switch is a no-brainer.
