What happens to emails sent from MGI forms or shopping baskets that cannot be delivered?

It depends on the reason for the failure.

In order for MGI to send an email using the mgiSendMail tag or mgiSendOrder tag, you must provide the recipient's email address ("to" parameter), the sender's email address ("from" parameter) and the outgoing SMTP server address ("mailserver" parameter).

If the recipient's email address is not hosted on the PagePlop servers and is undeliverable, then the email will attempt to deliver and will then bounce to the sender's email address. If the recipient's email address is hosted on the PagePlop servers and the email address does not exist, the email will fail and will be stored in the failed mail archive.

If an email address is not allowed to send email through the specified SMTP server, the email will fail and will be stored in the failed mail archive. On the PagePlop system, either the recipient or sender's email address must be hosted by PagePlop in order to pass through our email server. For example, an email sent to "user@aol.com" from "user@msn.com" would fail.

In MGI version 2, failed emails are stored in a database named "__MGIDB__SendMail_Log__". You can view, edit, re-send and delete failed emails using the Admin mode of the mgiSendMail tag. The following "failedemail.mgi" page contains the mgiSendMail tag in Admin mode. To use this code, download and unstuff or unzip the file below. FTP the file to your web site space, then access the "failedmail.mgi" page in a web browser (e.g., "http://www.domain.com/failedemail.mgi). Use the web-based interface to manage your failed emails.

MGI 2 Failed Email Code (Zipped)

In MGI version 1, failed emails are stored in the "MGI Data" folder in a database named "MGI Failed Mail Archive". In MGI 1, you may view and export failed emails from the Failed Email Database using the mgiEditDatabase tag. To use this code, download and unstuff or unzip the file below. FTP the file into the "MGI Data" folder in your web site space. Access the "failedemail.html" page in a web browser - you must substitute "%20" for the space in "MGI Data" in the URL (e.g., "http://www.domain.com/MGI%20Data/failedemail.html"). To export the emails, click the "Export to File" button, enter the name for an export file, then click the "Export" button. The emails in the database will be exported in tab-delimited format with the specified file name in the "MGI Data" folder.
